Prayer and Fasting Week 1
As a church family, we are setting aside 21 days to pray and fast in line with Acts 1:8 when Jesus told his disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
During our first week of Prayer and Fasting, we set aside time each day to pray over our Jerusalem. Jerusalem was the central hub for the early church. It was home for many people in the church. Jerusalem included their families, friends, employees, employers, and so much more. As we focus on our Jerusalem, we are praying for the places we live, work, play, study, and drive on a daily and weekly basis.
Weekly Prayer practice:
Make a list with your family of everyone you know in your neighborhood or networks of relationships that do not know Jesus. Pray over these names daily that they would come to know Jesus and you would have an open door to share his love for them.
Weekly Scripture focus:
Psalm 127:1; Joshua 24:15; Matthew 9:35-38; Acts 26:18; 1Timothy 2:1-4
As we pray through this week, we are also asking that you consider abstaining from food during breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays during our prayer and fasting. We’ll be praying daily and fasting from food weekly. If you are unable to fast from food for whatever reason, please consider finding another way that you can join us in a fast. This could be from various things but should be something that isn’t overly easy and ideally, something that you depend on from day to day. I’m excited for what God will do in us and through us during this time of prayer and fasting.
